PHOSPHORESCENT PAINTINGS

Main image

In the basement of Vaclav Spala Gallery there are two interconnected exhibition rooms. Into the first room there Irena Jůzová installed three paintings and three paintings opposite on the wall. Their surfaces are painted by a light green-yellow phosphor colour which reacts at light. On each of them there is a sketch of drawing by a fine red pencil, which is then supplemented with a black accent line. The drawings are selected records from her sketchbook. In the room there the light switches on and off in the regular intervals. The light turns on at the moment when the colour is fading and darkness arises. In the darkness, the real drawing of the picture disappears, but it remains at a visitor's retina.
